Import Point:

Before creating your people card, make sure you have your correct name in your email account for individuals, while for businesses; you should use your correct business name in your business email address.

The reason I made this known to you, is because you will not be able to change the name on your Google people card during the creation. 

This is a security measure to keep and prevent just anyone from creating a profile using your details, such as your phone number and email address.

Having said all this, let us get started with your virtual card.

Create your Add Me to Search Google People Card for Individuals:

To Add yourself to Google people card, simply follow the below instructions:

  • To get started, go to your mobile phone and search for the Google Search app, as shown in the image below.

If you do not have it installed, simply install it here.

  • And click on the Google App to open it.

  • Type this (add me to search), and search for it.
  • You will find the Add yourself to Google Search section as shown in the screenshot below.
  • Simply click on View Example to see a sample of how your Google virtual card should look like, and then, 
  • Click on Get Started to create your people card.

  • After clicking on Get Started, you will be required to sign in to Google if you are not already signed in to Google.
  • If you have more than one Google account signed in on your phone, you will be asked by Google to choose an account, 
  • Simply click on your desired Gmail account, and login.

The next step is the verify your phone number section:

  • In this part, you need to verify a unique phone number to create your card. 
  • You may choose to display the number you used in registering for the add me to search card, or display another number on your card later.
You can edit your card any time you want.

As shown in the screenshot below, simply choose your country by clicking on the country flag to select your country,

  • After you have selected country, you should enter your phone number.

Entering your number here will not make it to be public; it is only needed by Google to send you a verification code that you will use in verifying your number.

  • Simply enter your number and click on Next to continue. See screenshot below.

Note: In the above screenshot, you will find two buttons, one Not now and the other NEXT, the Not now option is there for you to verify your number later. If you choose this option, you will not need to enter your phone number at this time.

But if you choose the NEXT option you will enter your number before clicking Next to receive the verification code from Google.

  • Now wait for some minutes to receive your people card verification code from Google, then enter the code in box as shown in the image below and click on next.


Next Step:

In this new section, as shown in the screenshot below, simply change your avatar to the photo you want to show or appear on your add me to search card.

Your name will be automatically imported or populated by Google from your Gmail email account.

  • In the Location box, simply enter your location (for example, Lagos, Nigeria.)
  • In the about box, you should write something like this (Head worker who likes photography, jogging, and music.) and anything you think is okay to share with the public.
  • The occupation box should be filled with the exact job or business that you do. (For example, Laboratory Scientist, Insurance Agent, Medical Doctor, Student, etc.)

Note: Any option showing the asterisk sign (*) must be filled.

  • After you have entered all your information in the Add me to Google Card, simply click on Preview to see how your Google Card look like.
  • If you are satisfied with your card, you should click on save to create your Add me to search Google Card.

Create your Add this Business to Google:

To get started with your Google business card: 

  • Simply click on Add this business to Google as shown in the image below,

  • and in the new pop-up, click on Get Started.

  • You will be redirected to the My Business page.
  • Just under the find and manage your business, you should type your business name and click on next. See image below.

  • Then enter your business category. See example (Fashion designer, Real Estate, Safety equipment supplier, Hair salon, Civil engineering company, Public Relations Consultancy Company, Hospital and tourism school, etc.) and click on next.

In this next screen, you will be asked if you want to add a location customers can visit, like a store or office, simply select either Yes or No, and click on Next.

If you selected Yes, you will be required to enter your address as shown in the screenshot below.

Fill in your details and click on next to take you to the a map showing where you or are your business is located.

Simply drag and zoom the map and position the marker on the exact spot where your business is located, and click on next.

But if you choose the No option, no action is needed.

 

The next page will ask you if you also serve customers outside your location. You are to select Yes, I also serve them outside my location, or No, I don’t .

If you choose Yes, click on next, and you will be asked to add the areas you serve. This is optional. In this part, you can list your service areas in the box below.

This list will show up on your listing and help bring relevant customers to your business. You can list as many locations as you want, and click on the next button.

In the next screen, you would asked what contact details do you want to show to customers. This help customers get in touch by including this info on your listing. This is optional.

If you choose to add your contact phone number, business website, simply do so and click on Next, or you can just click on next and skip this step if you do not have a website, or want to show your contact phone number.

The next screen will ask you if you want updates and recommendation for your business on Google, you can either choose Yes or No, and click on next.

This will take you to the finish and manage this listing page.  To finish your business card listing, simply click on finish.

Now Google will request that you choose a way to verify or confirm your Google My Business, so that you can fully manage and represent your business on Google.

Enter your contact name, and click on the Mail button to receive a postcard with your code sent to your address.

This mail may take up to 14 days depending on your location, to get to you.
